My Life! : Shiny Sparkly

It started one day in the car, I saw a sign out the window and it reminded me of something so I started talking to David about whatever the sign reminded me of.  He looked at me and just started laughing.  My reaction of course was “What?!?!”.  He then proceeded to let me in on the fact that I apparently do this all the time.  He say’s I’m like a cat that sees something shiny and sparkly and I’m completely distracted by it at the most random times!  Of course I denied it!  That is so untrue, I’m completely focused I never get distracted!!  Ten minutes later I saw something else and we started the whole conversation again.  This time it ended with me hotly proclaiming I just wanted to share with him what I was thinking even if it is random.  I was forced to admit though that he is right, I tend to get distracted and it sets off a chain of thoughts in my head and by the time I’m done I can’t remember what the thought was that started it all.

Apparently David and I have been together long enough that he knows exactly when a shiny sparkly things moment is about to happen!  I don’t know if I make a face or what but I’m a little concerned that my husband has figured me out, now what will we do for the next 50 years if he already knows what I will say or do. I need to learn to be more mysterious I guess and keep him on his toes!

Shiny sparkly things don’t have to be shiny or sparkly or even things they just have to be distracting.  This affliction is most predominant when cleaning the house!  I can be in the middle of vacuuming the whole house and I’ll notice the fan is dirty so I’ll start cleaning the fan and forget I was vacuuming.  David just shakes his head at me because then I’ll move on to dusting the lamps too and about 20 min later I’ll trip over the vacuum and remember I was supposed to be vacuuming!!  That is exactly how my brain works sometimes it’s like six degrees of separation before I end up back at Kevin Bacon or in this case the vacuum.  I can see this affliction when I’m on the computer too, it usually results in me having at least 7 tabs open on my web browser at any time because I see a shiny sparkly thing and I click on it.  Then while it’s loading I click to another tab because I hate waiting and being bored.  I like to think of it as multitasking!  (Remember when that was a great resume buzzword!)  Sometimes I leave the tabs open for days so I don’t forget whatever it was that distracted me and then my computer downloads an update, restarts and I get to start over on a blank slate.  It’s like clearing clutter from my brain!

Maybe shiny sparkly things is why I love photographing weddings, there is always something going on and I love it!!  I’m never bored at a wedding, I’m constantly entertained!  There is always a fun detail or sweet moment happening and I’m always on the lookout for those things.  It feeds my addiction!

So for those of you that are also easily distracted by shiny sparkly things I think we should form a group where we can entertain each other with our random thoughts and stories!  For now you can see what my desktop looks like on any given day.  I did set it to cascade so it looks neater then how I usually do things which has no rhyme or reason!
