Where to Find Stylish Maternity Clothes in Richmond VA

Where to Find Stylish Maternity Clothes in Richmond VA

I’m going to let you in on a little secret…. you can still look cute and stylish in maternity clothes! Not only that but they can be so comfortable you don’t want to give them up! I still fondly remember this cream open front maternity cardigan I had, I only passed it along because I was embarrassed that the tag clearly said maternity lol! I regret giving it away so much now. Knowing where to shop is key AND knowing what to shop for! That is why I put together this post to help you shop for maternity clothes in Richmond Va!

Did you know maternity fashion started during the Middle Ages?!?! According to Wikipedia, “The evolution of maternity clothing began during the Middle Ages, and became fashionable as women became more selective about style and comfort in the types of maternity clothing they wore.” I promise this post won’t be a history lesson but I thought that was kind of cool to know! Most new moms starting needing maternity clothes around the second trimester according to this article on Good Housekeeping.

Plus I’m linking to an amazing photographer in California who has a great post on Fall Family Photo Outfit Ideas! Be sure to check that out!

Shop Local for Maternity Clothes in Richmond Va

Whenever possible I suggest starting out with local shops. They tend to have pre-owned maternity items that are in great condition. Some even still have the tags on them! Plus when you are done you can consign right back to them and get back some of your cash. Also now that Motherhood Maternity is closing it really leaves pregnant moms searching for places to shop in person for maternity clothes.

In Richmond Va, there are a few shops that carry consignment maternity clothes along with baby clothes. I love how active these small businesses are on social media including Facebook and Instagram. You can shop from your phone, pay online and have items shipped directly to you!

Clover

“Consistently voted one of the “Best Children’s Clothing Stores” in Richmond and Central Virginia by readers of Virginia LivingStyle Weekly and Richmond magazines, Clover has been selling premium brand secondhand children’s and maternity/nursing clothes since 2010.” – from their website.

They feature brands like Baby/Mini Boden, Crewcuts, Hatch, Kissy Kissy, Latched Mama, Lilly Pulitzer, The North Face, Patagonia, A Pea in a Pod, Seraphine, and Vineyard Vines. You can shop in person at their store at 3024 West Cary Street Richmond, VA 23221. They also have two sister stores, Clementine and Ashby

Also be sure to follow them on IG and FB to see up to date inventory.

Mom 2 Mom

Their mission is to provide quality, gently used products at an affordable price while promoting a sustainable quality of life. Victoria the owner started this business 12 years ago and has a passion for helping new moms get prepared for their baby’s arrival. They offer like-new maternity and children’s clothing along with shoes, toys, baby equipment, furniture, and much more. Plus on Monday’s they offer a 50% discount on maternity clothes!!! WinWin!

You can shop in person by visiting their store at 49 W Williamsburg Rd Sandston, VA 23150 or shop online – https://mom2momrva.com/.

Kid 2 Kid

Kid 2 Kid is a franchise store so they are typically locally owned but you can find them in most states and even overseas. They were founded on the principle that “kids grow faster than paychecks.” When they first started back in 1992 second-hand was considered second-rate but that has changed as parents have realized that paying full price for clothes that only get worn a short period of time just doesn’t make sense.

Inventory is different at every store so you’ll definitely want to go in person. Personally I’d call ahead of time and ask if they have maternity clothes currently in stock. Luckily in the Richmond area there are several stores to check out –

Mechanicsville7230 Bell Creek Rd E, Mechanicsville, VA 23111

Short Pump11740 W Broad St Ste 105, Richmond, VA 23233

Midlothian4537 Commonwealth Centre Pkwy, Midlothian, VA 23112

Charlottesville370 Hillsdale Dr, Charlottesville, VA 22901

Target

I’m definitely a Target girl and my favorite store did not disappoint when I was pregnant! The selection in store is limited but keep an eye out for cute pieces to be stocked. All of my maternity jeans came from Target and a quick tip I learned was to size down one size from my normal pants size to help with sagging. It worked great for me so maybe give it a try! I really love the long and thick t-shirts they carry in white, gray and black. No lie I still buy them because they don’t look like maternity and are so comfy!

Plus if you check out their online selection you’ll find even more great stuff! I suggest following #targetmaternity on IG to see how other mamas wear their maternity clothes in Richmond Va.

Shop Online for a New Maternity Wardrobe

If the local Richmond Va stores just aren’t cutting it for you there are SOOOOO many places now to shop online for maternity clothes. I’ve included a few of my favorites below.

Green Bean Baby Boutique

This shop is actually a local store in Charlottesville but I’m putting it under my Shop Online category because they carry maternity clothes on their website. So you get to support a local small business even when shopping online!

They also focus on those items you need post partum to make breastfeeding easier. Trust me you’ll want to have 2-3 good bras that easily unclip for that period of time. Plus shirts that can be discreetly pulled down make things so much easier. I mean the last thing I wanted to do was pull my shirt up and show off my wonderful post partum belly!

Check them out online – https://www.greenbeanbabyboutique.com/ or in person – 2120 Barracks Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22903

PinkBlush

You can find outfits for everything from the beach to your baby shower at PinkBlush! They offer stylish maternity clothes for the bump and beyond. I especially love that they carry plus sizes, I know how hard it can be finding stylish plus size clothing let alone maternity clothes. PinkBlush has a huge selection so you can be sure you’ll find several items you love! I personally love their dresses and if you are an Instagram mom they have an influencer program you can sign up for.

Gap

When you are looking for a basic item for your closet that is classic and well made Gap is the place to go. From t-shirts and tank tops to jeans and active wear they’ve got you covered. I definitely recommend looking at your favorite items in your current wardrobe and see if you can find maternity versions. To me that was jeans, a striped boat style shirt, comfy t-shirts and shorts.

Loft

It’s always nice when you can still shop your favorite stores for pregnancy clothing too! If you love Loft’s style for your regular wardrobe then I think you’ll be really happy with their maternity line. It’s only online but hopefully the sizes will be true to what you are used to and if not you can use their 30 day return policy to get the right size for you. Plus Loft always has great sales so you can stock your closet and save! This can be great if you need to dress up for work because the Loft is usually very work wear friendly.

StitchFix

I really wish I had known they did maternity the last time I was pregnant I would have totally tried them out! If you don’t know what StitchFix is it’s an online service that picks out clothes for you and ships them to your door. So it’s a surprise when you open the box to see if your stylist nailed your look! I’ve had hits and misses with this but it’s definitely fun wondering what they’ve picked.

You pay a $20 styling fee and then if you like what you get you pay for it then, if you don’t like something or anything you can send it back. The styling fee is credited to your purchase if you do like the items.

Rent the Runway

I still think the entire idea behind this company is genius! As someone who used to attend military balls every year I have a closet full of formal dresses that I’ve worn 2x. (Yes I do try to re-wear something several years later if it still fits!) So the idea of renting something that is high quality and designer sounds awesome.

I love that they have a maternity section too because it’s perfect for any formal events or weddings and of course your photo session. One of my past clients wore a gorgeous wrap dress from RTR and it wasn’t even maternity but because it was a wrap it fit her bump perfectly!
