Are you on the hunt for the perfect gift for the mom in your family who is always taking photos? I can’t tell you how many emails I’ve gotten over the years asking for suggestions on what camera to buy mom for the holidays. So this year I’ve put together my Ultimate Photography Gift Guide for Moms This Christmas. Let’s help moms take better photos of the day to day moments!
Table of Contents
Compact Mirrorless Camera
You had to know that an Ultimate Photography Gift Guide for Moms wouldn’t be complete without camera recommendations! While I still maintain your camera phone is great for the everyday moments I know some moms want to get creative. They want to learn more about photography and take better photos.
I think she’ll love the Olympus E-M10 Mark IV, it is a great entry level camera with lots of features. She can even transfer the photos wirelessly from the camera to her phone! You can get a kit lens to start but I recommend grabbing the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 Lens, it is a great versatile lens that will give her better photos.
Some moms want to make more videos because they are content creators. The Sony Alpha ZV-E10 is perfect for that! It’s focus is primarily geared towards video creation. So she can create amazing family films that everyone will treasure down the road.
Lightweight Tripod
For this I would recommend grabbing mom 2 tripods. This might sound crazy but get her one for her camera and then grab one that she can use with her phone. This way she can setup that beautiful shot while you guys are out picking apples in the fall and actually be in the photos herself! This was an easy choice to add to our gift guide for moms.
For my phone I have one similar to this, ATUMTEK 51″ Selfie Stick Tripod. I love that it collapses into a compact size that is easy to store in my desk drawer or throw in my purse or camera bag.
Now for her camera I love the Manfrotto brand and the tripod I use is the Manfrotto Befree Advanced. It folds down super compact and the bag makes it easy to store and carry with me on the go. The adjustments are easy to make and it’s sturdy so I feel comfortable having my expensive camera sitting on it.
Stylish Camera Bag
Now that she has this awesome new camera she 1000% needs a bag to go with it! I’m super partial to leather bags and I LOVE my leather bookbag style camera bag. It’s the Lyra from Kamrette. While researching my gift guide for moms I found a similar version on Amazon that honestly looks almost identical, the only difference is the top is more rounded and this version doesn’t have the front pocket, oh and it’s about $100 less, Leather Camera Backpack. It even has a spot for your laptop which is so nice when I’m traveling.
Another smaller camera bag option is the Meliaebag. This one is more of a purse style and will fit her camera easily. I personally love the brown leather but it even comes in light pink and black too! Having a bag that can double as a purse and is large enough to hold her camera will be a game changer for making sure she takes it with her!
Photo Editing Software Subscription
The biggest difference in good photos and great photos is usually good light but after that is good editing. An editing software subscription gives her access to simple yet powerful tools to brighten, sharpen, and add a little magic to her photos.
I personally use Adobe Lightroom for my professional photos and my personal ones. My subscription let’s me edit on the computer and on my phone. This is a must have for any moms who want to create better photos! See the straight out of camera shots below next to the edited images from my phone.
Editing Presets for Camera and Phone Photos
For moms who love a quick edit, presets are a lifesaver! These pre-made filters allow her to add consistent, beautiful effects to her photos in seconds. Whether she’s using her camera or her phone, presets make it easy to get that cohesive, polished look we all admire. Plus, they’re customizable, so she can adjust the intensity to match her style and each unique photo.

A Family Photo Session
Ready to make this holiday season one to remember? If you truly want to give her a thoughtful gift from the heart then reaching out to your favorite photographer and getting a gift certificate for a session would be the ultimate gift you could give. While yes she can get in photos using the cameras and tripods mentioned above nothing beats someone else taking care of it for her.
A professional photographer is going to capture moments between her and the kids that can’t be staged. If she is into photography this is the gift you really want to give her! If you happen to live in the Charlottesville, Richmond or surrounding areas in Virginia you can hire me for this amazing present. I offer gift certificates that can be wrapped and presented on Christmas morning! Click the button below to learn more!
