Oh, to have those newborn moments with my babies again… I blinked & suddenly all three of them are their own walking & talking little beings. Their newborn portraits double in value every year! And I don’t say this as a newborn photographer, but as a fellow mom. Some how, during the sleepless nights, endless diaper changes, and hours of holding your baby, somehow they suddenly turn one. Then two. Then three.

And you’ll find yourself at every birthday wondering, ‘where did the time go?’

I’ll admit, when I had my oldest and moms would tell me this, I would roll my eyes. Being told ‘enjoy it, it goes quickly!’ is such a cliché that I dismissed as unsolicited advice. And then he blew out his first birthday candles and we brought home another boy, then a baby sister, into the family and life moved even faster. Now, I find myself fighting not saying the same to clients. Motherhood is hard and we are told from all directions that we need to love every moment of it. I know that’s not the reality of being a parent, so instead of saying ‘enjoy it, it goes quickly’, I’ll say this:

The days are long, but the years are short, mama. Enjoy the moments that are full of love and breathe through the moments that seem impossible. And lastly, take a million photos. One day, they will be all that’s left of that tiny baby in your arms now. Every birthday, every milestone, I promise you will cherish the photos more & more.
