If you are looking for midwives in Miami you’ve come to the right place? Am I a midwife? Nope I offer newborn photography in South Florida. But I did all the research for you on who is highly rated and being recommended by local moms in South Florida. So take a look at this list and do further research yourself to find a Miami midwife that you love!
Just like my previous post on birthing centers in Miami I poured through local moms groups seeing who was recommended over and over again for midwives in Miami and South Florida area. Then I checked them out on Google to see what their reviews were and read through those. I also went through their websites to see who had the most user friendly sites and offered the most advice for new parents. Finally I put them all together in this post to make it easy on you!
Before we jump to the list (which you are welcome to do if you already know this part). I thought it would be a good time to talk about what midwives do. As someone who had to have 3 c-sections I didn’t get to work with a midwife so this was all new to me.

What are Midwives?
According to Midwives Alliance of North America – “Midwives are trained professionals with expertise and skills in supporting women to maintain healthy pregnancies and have optimal births and recoveries during the postpartum period. Midwives provide women with individualized care uniquely suited to their physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and cultural needs.”
What do Midwives in Miami Florida do?
Midwives in Miami provide pre and postnatal care for pregnant moms just like an OBGYN. This includes exams during pregnancy and after. Plus they perform births and can assist new moms with things like lactation consultations and care. In fact midwives can provide annual checkups, birth control and menopause care.
How is a Miami Midwife different than an OBGYN?
As I mentioned before I had c-sections so my next question was how is a midwife different than an OBGYN? Of course there is a difference in education but I think we all know that just because you go to school for something and get a degree does not mean you automatically know more than someone who has trained on the job and done certification training.
So to me that isn’t a huge deal. In fact my obgyns office had a midwife so obviously they are well educated, trained and not competition for doctors.
It really comes down to types of births and pregnancies. High risk pregnancies like my own aren’t suited for a midwife because the chances of a c-section are higher and they cannot perform a c-section. But if you have a low risk pregnancy you don’t have to have an OBGYN. You can opt to work with a midwife! You can also feel confident in knowing that they are specially trained for pregnancy and births.
If you are low risk and interested in a home birth, water birth or a birth outside of a hospital in a birthing center a midwife would be your best choice. That isn’t to say they don’t deliver in hospitals because they definitely do that too!
Let’s take a look at the top 8 midwives in Miami that have been recommended by local South Florida moms.
