The weather was amazing on Saturday, a perfect May day to celebrate love! I stopped by the marina before the wedding to check on our boat and I noticed so many sailboats out on the water with the sails up riding the wind. I was a bit jealous but I knew today was Jill & Paul’s wedding day and as boaters themselves they would understand that tug of the water. In fact that love and tug of the water is what helped them choose Osprey’s Landing at Belmont Bay for their wedding. Set on the banks of the same Occoquan and Potomac Rivers that they take their boat out on, in fact I’m pretty sure they have passed Osprey’s by boat at least a time or two before :)!
We met up last summer for their engagement session which was also on the water at Pohick Bay park and I knew from that session that these guys were so easy to work with! The camera loves them and you could just see how much they adored each other. I had so much fun working with them and I’ve been looking forward to their wedding for months now! When I walked into the reception venue I loved Jill just a little bit more because it was exactly what I wanted for my wedding!!!! Gorgeous lanterns with candles, pink hydrangea and beautiful silver accents! Jill & Paul incorporated their love of fishing into the decor also with all the tables being named after fish! Everything was beautiful I know she worked hard on all those details and it paid off with stunning results. I loved that she dressed up the pergola for the ceremony too! It was a fantastic backdrop to the ceremony photos!
When I arrived at Jill’s house everyone was bustling about getting hair and makeup. As I made my way though the house to find Jill my heart was bursting to see photos from their engagement session all over the walls! Including a stunning painting done from one of the photos by a family friend. I peeked into the bathroom to see Jill finishing up makeup and looking gorgeous on her wedding day! Finally after 2.5 years of planning the day was here! Not even being on crutches for two weeks before her wedding nursing a foot injury would stop her from walking down that aisle! With amazing friends and family on hand to handle any crisis their one goal was to help create the perfect day for Jill & Paul!
I love hearing the how we met stories from my couples and I think it is so sweet when they share them with their guests during the wedding ceremony. Jill & Paul met at a party one night and after that night she told a friend she had met the one! Paul won her over with his “redneck ways” including his love for fishing and ATV’s! He remembers her having a little attitude and that she could joke with him! They were truly made for each other and made to make the other one better. I have so enjoyed getting to know Jill & Paul and documenting their love! I hope that the wedding is just the beginning of that and that there will be many more great events I can capture for them! Till then maybe we will see each other on the water!
Congratulations Jill & Paul I really cannot express how happy I am for you guys and how wonderful your wedding was! I hope you are enjoying that honeymoon and Paul I’m totally waiting for my plane ticket to photograph some honeymoon memories! LOL! Enjoy the sun and sand and of course the water guys!
