This is a new project I’m launching on the blog this fall and winter, I have partnered up with several wedding vendors in the Northern Virginia area and asked them to guest post on my blog.  I’d love for this to be the start of a great resource to my clients when planning their wedding.  So stay tuned to the blog this year and look for some great articles written by local vendors!  I hope this gives my brides a chance to get to know other vendors and learn from them!  So to start this project out I’m interviewing Katie Tierno of Spring Street Weddings & Events!  We had a wonderful lunch yesterday where we sat and talked about our businesses and weddings of course!  Afterwards I snapped off a couple of new headshots for Katie, she is gorgeous and looks amazing in the photos, check them out after the interview!!  Katie will be back later this year with articles on planning and designing your dream wedding.  Also a big congratulations out to her as she just got married this summer!!!!

1. Tell me about your business! What do you do?
My business is for all brides and grooms looking for help during the stressful (yet wonderful) time leading up to their BIG DAY! I get to help brides who need all the help in the world as they continually put in 60 hour work weeks for their unyielding bosses and I get to assist those DIY (Do It Yourself) brides who need help putting all the puzzle pieces together for a finalized finished project! For us, its important to remember that every wedding is different, and every bride and family has different needs and wants. We truly enjoy conquering each wedding making it perfect for all the different brides out there!

2. What was your inspiration for opening your business?
When I opened my business I had already been working for another planning consulting business. So, when that business closed I was truly inspired by the brides I still had an obligation to provide a service for! I already knew how I wanted to present my business, the kind of business I wanted to run, and in what direction (UP) I wanted it to go! Every bride has things to teach me as a planner, and therefore, I have so much to share with new brides. Its a well oiled machine that is constantly moving in new and different directions!

3. What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job has to be the moment at the reception, when I can finally sit down and look at everything with calm eyes and a clear head. I check the happy bride and groom from a distance, I look for vendors doing their jobs without any hesitations and I start to reflect on the CRAZY day that just took place. I take comfort in knowing that the hard part is over, and pride in knowing I’ve done an amazing job. (If I don’t say so myself!) Helping a couple to successfully have the best day of their long lives together is a very rewarding feeling and I take a lot of joy in that fact!

4. What inspires you?
EVERYTHING Inspires me… Flowers with their own color palates, dresses with a signature shape, couples who share a love for a specific place or thing, movies with wedding scenes… EVERYTHING!

5. As a recent bride what is the number one piece of advice you would pass along to brides to be?
Three things:
-Don’t “pass the mic” for speeches. That, was unfortunately, my brand new husbands spur of the moment decision making skills hard at work. Took way too long, keep it to 4-6 people MAX!
-DO GET A WEDDING PLANNER!!!! And work with her throughout the WHOLE process! The more they know through the process the easier it is for them to make executive decisions when things don’t go as planned. They get to know you as a person and what you generally like and dislike!
-Don’t get sucked into every detail you can think up. Think, Simple and Sweet! I wanted everything and all of it… At the end of the day, I realized I almost didn’t enjoy anything fully, cause I was enjoying EVERYTHING a little bit!
