Sailing Dogs | Fredericksburg Virginia Dog Photographer

For the last two years David and I have kicked around the idea of getting a sailboat and this year we finally got one!  We looked long and hard and passed on some good ones and some not so good ones and we lucked out when my father in law found an awesome one for us.  So we are the proud owners of a small 23.5 Hunter sailboat and this was the first weekend we took the girls out on it!  Now being the super dog mommy I am I researched life vests for doggies and found a great article on BoatUS comparing 4 different vest on four different doggy types.  The RuffWear vest was highly recommended for larger dogs so if you are looking for a life vest for your pup I would definitely check out the article.  I did pick the RuffWear life jacket for both girls and measured them per the website around their chest.  Sadie our lab fits the medium red perfectly.  Maxie on the other hand has a big barrel chest so her jacket fits great at the front but is a little loose at the back.  There is no way she would fit a medium though and after testing lifting both girls in the jackets by the handle it is just fine.  They girls have already been stopped by the impressed boat goers around our dock and had their snazzy jackets admired!  We haven’t had one go overboard yet but David and I are very happy knowing there is handle to grab onto to get them back in the boat.  RuffWear is not paying me for my endorsement in anyway I just thought I’d share my experience for the other dog lovers out there on the water  Now on to the eye candy!!!
